Reprioritize Spending

I would like to see development impact fees reserved for the roads and storm drainage construction and maintenance as directed by state law.

Reduce Utility Fees

I would like to see reduction in current utility fees. The current fees exceed the cost of providing the service and the excess funds are being spent on nonessential services.

Reduce Property Taxes

I would like to see a reduction in property taxes by working with departments to be more accountable and efficient. The city has grown 5% in the last 3 years while the city expenses have increased 21% during the same period.

Planning on Private Property

I will recommend the planners show more respect for private property rights while adhering to applicable state and local land use laws.

What I Stand For

I believe that freedom and justice are the bases for good government. The wisdom of our founding fathers verifies that to accomplish this there is the need for limited government and the acknowledgement that the unalienable rights come from our Creator. The antithesis of this is big government and basic assumption that rights come from elected officials. I believe that answers to all the day to day questions that will come before the Mayor and City Council will be very different depending on which basis you choose. The words often used to categorize these two diametrically opposing philosophies are Constitution vs. Socialism.

I feel that one important issue at the present is continued rising taxes and utility fees. This is undoubtedly because expenditures have not been controlled. This is the result of big government philosophies that have been held by elected city officials in the past. Another issue of concern is the improper utilization of funds from impact and enterprise funds specifically designated for essential services that have been commingled with the general funds and then shifted to nonessentials.

My experience in the health care business, and in developing several subdivisions and multiple building projects over the past 35 years I am convinced that freedom of the individual property owner is essential to good consistent growth. My experience is that too many regulations create undesirable situations such as overcrowding and heavy indebtedness. In a free market place, the builder will do the very best he can with the money he has available, whether he is building for himself or for a buyer.

It is clearly obvious that the city's heavy involvement in minutia on private property and lack of overall planning and development on the general development of roads and storm water management has caused great problems. For example, the heavy impact fees for storm water management are actually sacred funds which should be reserved for that purpose. But these funds have been commingled in the general funds and spent for other and non essential purposes. Another area of need is the overall development of streets and roads. There should be a consistent budget to improve the overall traffic needs which includes purchase of land for a collector system before it is developed and brings exponential increase in cost. Here again, the impact frees and tax money has been diverted and perverted to some other purposes.
